Lola's Taco Bar opens Monday, Jan. 12, at 20195 Mack Ave. in Grosse Pointe Woods. The fast-casual restaurant is run by Michelin-starred restaurateur Branden McRill, Chef Brandon Zarb, Mel Fuechtmann, and Niko Moschouris.
Diners will find chef-driven tacos, scratch-made salsas, and margaritas in the old Boston Market space. McRill grew up in Grosse Pointe. He earned his Michelin star at Rebelle in New York, which has since closed.
"Lola's is meant to be a place you come back to again and again," McRill said in a statement according to WXYZ. "Great tacos, affordable margaritas, warm hospitality — that's what makes a neighborhood restaurant work."
Zarb worked at Chicago's Big Star and Ferndale's Imperial before this project. He built the menu around tacos, bowls, and burritos with fresh flavors.
"The taco is the perfect vehicle for delivering big flavors to a wide audience," Zarb said in a statement. "We're being careful about respecting traditions while applying some culinary techniques to the freshest products available. We want you to find a taco that satisfies everyone at the table at Lola's, whether you're a taco purist, an adventurous eater, or even someone looking for some great vegan or healthy options."
Al pastor and steak tacos get shaved fresh from vertical trompos. Rotisserie chicken comes in tacos or as family-style meals. Vegan and vegetarian options are on the menu too.
Draft and frozen margaritas made with fresh lime and premium tequila will be served. Beer is available. So are zero-proof cocktails.
Indoor seating is ready now. A walk-up window handles carry-out orders. The patio won't open until spring 2026.
