BD's Mongolian Grill closed its final Michigan location last Thursday. This wrapped up a run of over 30 years in the state where the Asian-fusion chain was born. The restaurant at 42089 Ford Road in Canton Township was the last operating site in Michigan, according to MLive.

The closure marks the end. BD's Mongolian Grill had operated 10 locations across Michigan when it peaked.

The company started in downtown Royal Oak back in 1992, and that first restaurant popularized the build-your-own Mongolian barbecue style throughout metro Detroit.

Customers flocked to these restaurants for make-your-own stir-fry bowls and an interactive, flat-top grill concept where diners picked their ingredients and watched as cooks prepared meals on large grills right before their eyes.

The flagship Royal Oak location closed in 2019. That closure came after 27 years at the founding site.

In recent years, the chain's presence in Michigan shrank as locations shut their doors, one after another. The Canton Township restaurant was the sole survivor until last week.

With the Canton site now closed, no BD's Mongolian Grill restaurants remain in Michigan.

The chain operated for three decades in the state. Gone. The brand no longer has any presence in the market where it started.
