Macomb County launched its yearly tree and plant sale. Runs through April 1. Green Macomb partners with the county Department of Economic and Planning, plus the Blue Water Conservation District, to make this happen.

Shoppers can snag young saplings, fruit trees, flowering shrubs, wildflower seed, and various fruits and vegetables. Prices span $7 to $55. Options include arborvitae, Douglas fir, Norway spruce, paper birch, redbud, and red osier.

"It's the perfect time of year to start planning your garden and yard projects," said Gerard Santoro, program director for county Parks and Natural Resources in a press release, as shared by Macomb Daily. "The sale has so many benefits outside of just sprucing up your property. The addition of plants enhances our neighborhoods, reduces air pollution, decreases energy costs and improves management when it comes to water runoff."

Santoro explained the sale adds to what the county calls its "overall canopy, which is the ultimate goal of our Green Macomb program," according to Macomb Daily. Green Macomb wants to expand tree coverage throughout the area.

This sale kicked off nine years back. Since then? More than 180,000 trees and plants have found homes with residents, businesses, and communities across the county.

Orders go through the Green Macomb website until April 1. Buyers can get their purchases shipped home or grab them at two spots.

Pickup happens April 21 and 22 at the Armada Fairgrounds. Clinton Township Civic Center offers a second window on April 23 and 24. A small selection of trees and plants will be sold on-site during those pickup days, but stock is limited.
