Detroit’s 100 Greatest Songs: Artists announced for Don Was Revue
Ann Arbor guitarist and singer Al-Saadi, a finalist on the most recent season of “The Voice,” is part of a lineup that also includes Jena Irene, Mike Ellison, Spyder Turner, Danny Muggs, Melvin Davis, Blaire Alise, Ty Stone, Kendrick Hardaway, Doop Duprie , Mitch Ryder and Sean Ike.
They’ll be backed by a house band that amounts to a reunion of the Detroit group Was (Not Was), including guitarists Randy Jacobs and Brian (Roscoe) White, keyboardist Luis Resto, drummer Ron Pangborn, trumpeter Rayse Biggs, saxophonist Vincent Bowens, and vocalists Sweet Pea Atkinson, Sir Harry Bowens and Donald Ray Mitchell — with Was in his customary role on bass.
This will be the 9th edition of the Don Was Detroit All-Star Revue, in which the Grammy winning producer and Blue Note Records president celebrates the music of his native Detroit. It’s part of the 24th Concert of Colors festival, which will run July 14-17 at various Midtown venues.
The public voting portion of the Detroit’s 100 Greatest Songs project has closed. We’re busy tallying the votes, with the reveal culminating when the final Top 10 songs are announced at the Concert of Colors at Orchestra Hall on July 16….
