Together, this all-star roster brings decades of chart-topping music, unforgettable melodies, and concert-ready energy to one of Detroit’s most beloved waterfront venues.
Founded in the 1970s by legendary musician Paul Kantner, Jefferson Starship began as a musical collective committed to creative exploration and sonic adventure. Today, the band carries that same spirit across the globe, performing their catalog of rock classics with unmatched energy and heart. Their concerts remain a nonstop journey through their biggest hits — performed with the camaraderie, musicianship, and electric chemistry that have become their trademark.
The band’s current lineup brings together a powerhouse group of longtime members whose chemistry has shaped the band into the touring force it is today. The lineup includes:
- David Freiberg, original member
- Donny Baldwin, drummer (joined 1982)
- Chris Smith, keyboardist (joined 1998)
- Jude Gold, guitarist (joined 2012)
- Cathy Richardson, vocalist/guitarist (joined 2008)
As Jefferson Starship celebrates 50 years, the band honors the legacy of Paul Kantner, who passed away in 2016. His vision of “getting on a rocket ship and blasting off into the unknown” continues to guide the band forward. “That spirit is very much alive in the band today,” guitarist Jude Gold shared — a sentiment reflected every time the group takes the stage.
This summer, Detroit fans will have the unforgettable opportunity to experience that spirit live at The Aretha — one of the region’s most beloved outdoor venues.
