Congratulations to Southfield! You are the WCSX City of the Week! This week it's the Bret Michaels Southfield media blitz. Join Joel Morgan as he takes the Bret Michaels standee on a tour of Southfield! Don't forget the Bret standee AND the real Bret Michaels will be at Pine Knob this August for Parti-Gras 2.0!
Joel's Notes
I gifted a City of the Week shirt to Bret and we jumped in the WCSX van and headed west on Nine Mile Road in Southfield. Near the intersection of Nine Mile and Greenfield Road there is a really cool “Welcome to Southfield” sign, so I thought I would start our tour there. I got my first crazy looks of the day from onlookers and drivers of passing cars when I opened the van doors and took Bret out for his first pic by the Southfield sign. Bret Michaels Southfield invasion begins here!
Our next stop was
Fox2. There is a bus stop in front Fox2 and waiting for a bus, just minding her own business, was Antonette. She did raise an eyebrow at “us” as Bret and I waited for the red light to change to cross the street by her. Being such a friendly guy, we struck up a conversation. She decided she wanted a pic with Bret while she waited for her bus and we waited for the light to change!
Bret Michaels Southfield Visit to His "Birth" Place
Signs By Tomorrow created our Bret Michaels standee and a lot more for WCSX. Owners, Bruce & Ruth, and their staff are long time classic rockers that are always upbeat, creative, and dependable people. It’s always cool to pick up WCSX items Signs By Tomorrow has made. I thought it would be cool to show them what we do and include them in City of the Week!
Another highlight of the Southfield Tour with Bret was a visit to the massive
Southfield Library, where we got the most strange looks. We might have looked unusual, but certainly not dangerous. We were checking out the Music & Movies section where we were recognized. Well... BRET was recognized! Carly, The Librarian, totally wanted a pic with him! Librarians, Dan and Kelly joined us. Kelly gave us a friendly “sshhh!" Bret can be a bit loud sometimes. His volume goes up because he's so passionate when he's talking about learning!
We were starting to have too much fun when Librarian Kelly came over to remind us where we were! The Bret Michaels Southfield Invasion took the hint and continued their journey.
What's Happening at The Northland Center Property?
I always thought it was odd that
Northland Center (one of the first indoor malls in the United States) was located in
Southfield. The reason? It was the northern most mall that the retail mall company owned! The property
Northland Center Mall was formerly on is currently being redeveloped into a multi million dollar upscale condo/apartment retail and restaurant destination!
Contour Construction Site Manager, Larry was happy to give us a update by the gate saying that a highlight of the new project for him was a great BBQ restaurant being built at the site and to make sure I say hi to Big Jim for him- Done! The new community is what is referred to as "mixed-use living." The new development will have shops, restaurants, and living space.
Southfield is a cool city in "The Center of It All" that has great people (and food!) from all walks of life! The Bret Michaels Southfield tour was a big success. Thanks for the hospitality, Southfield!
