Chia Pet May Not Be the Pet for You
It didn’t all suck. I was actually pretty proud of our Chia Pet, I just didn’t expect to be such a pain in my seeds. Plus, my son, Jake, did get involved and that’s not always easy. Having said all that, I don’t know that I would do it again. LOL Should you decide to try a Chia Pet after this RINGING ENDORSEMENT, let me know! I’d love to hear how it went for you!

Doni Yoda Chia Pet
Over Christmas, I bought a Chia Pet. I thought it would be a fun project for the kids and me. My son, Jake, helped me with the beginning steps but then he gave a "peace out." I had never grown a Chia Pet before. I had no idea it was this long and complicated a process.... but keep in mind, I can also be dumb sometimes. The following is my experience with growing a Chia Pet... a cautionary tale if you will.
Step 1: Dunk Yourself

Step one: Fully Submerge Chia Pet in water and soak for 30 minutes. The damn thing kept floating so I had to weigh it down with my garlic salt. Don't judge me.

Step 2: Fill 'em Up!

Congratulations! You're already doing it wrong. After soaking my Chia Pet for 30 minutes, it occured to me that maybe I should have FILLED the Chia Pet through the hole in Yoda's head, but ya' know.

Step 3: Gross

Mix 2t of Chia seends with 2T of water... stir and wait 5 minutes until it's a "jam-like consistency." I used my finger to spread the stuff, thus: gross.

Step 4: DAMMIT.

Let seed dry, don't water for two days. Ignoring it is my best attribute, so fine, but a lot of the seeds came off when I finally watered it.

Step 5: Throw Up a Little

After you fill your Chia Pet with water, set it in the drip tray. Top the water off and dump the drip tray each day. Seeds should sprout in 3-4 days.... mine took a week and a half. When they did sprout, they looked absolutely disgusting. Zoom in on this pic. Am I wrong? It looks like bugs are crawling on my Chia Pet.

Step 6: EVERY DAY

Your Chia Pet needs attention EVERY.DAY. Top off with water, dump the drip tray, and face Yoda toward the window or the back side will look better than the front side.

Step 7: As Good As It's Gonna Get

It took me several weeks to get this looking this good. A lot of steps and consistant attention required, so let's enjoy this moment of zen.

Step 8: Die

After a few weeks, the plants get heavy and start to pull away from your Chia holder. They give you plenty of seeds to do it again, but, no thank you. This was too much BS.... ok, I may do it again. I am a glutton for punishment.
