City of the Week left the suburbs for a real city, Detroit Rock City! Doni, Joel and Cameraman Steven stopped for lunch at Slow's Bar BQ, then visited Orchestra Hall, Gleaners Food Bank and McClure’s Pickle Factory for National Pickle Day. But the crew couldn't leave downtown without taking advantage of some photo ops, afterall, we are Detroit's Classic Rock Station!

In 1986, Sports Illustrated commissioned the Joe Louis Monument. It stands as a testament to the power of Joe’s punch in and out of the ring.

Stopped on Woodward for a shot with the GM Building!

The Orchestra Hall just turned 100 years old!

thumbnail_IMG-0486.jpg

The history is nothing short of miraculous and amazing....

thumbnail_IMG-0484.jpg

It was built in 6 months and one day which was unbelievable for the time frame of 1919.

Orchestra Hall’s first big donor was Horace Dodge.

thumbnail_IMG-0496.jpg

The Hall has actually only been the home of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra for 50 of it’s 100 years.

thumbnail_IMG-0473.jpg

The original Orchestra Hall remained basically unchanged until 2003 when a huge addition was put on giving concert goers more room to hang before the show and allowing musicians adequate space for their instruments and needs around the performance.

They can't go anywhere without a selfie. Classic.

Gleaners is doing great things to feed needy families. This Tuesday, November 19th, is A Double Donation Day. Every dollar you donate in that 24 hour period the Ford Foundation will MATCH. Gleaners can feed 2 families for $3 a day. No one should have to go without food on Thanksgiving. ....Thanks, Theresa, Alma, Terry and Danielle!

You can also adopt a family for Christmas through the facility, Mercado, that COTW visited. To find out how, email Alma at Aperez@ gcfb.com

Thursday, November 14th was Pickle Day! Doni, Joel and Cameraman Steven headed over to McClure’s Pickle Factory and Bob McClure showed us how pickles are made!

thumbnail_IMG-0521.jpg

Dave was going to leave McClure’s because his back was killing him from lifting cases of pickles on to pallets... so they bought Dave a robot to do it instead. Dave is still there, man!

Would you look at that! It's the state of Michigan, and hey, there's Detroit!
