Eloise by day.

The hydrotherapy room. The bath tub was on a platform to make it easier to hold patients underwater... either ice cold or scalding hot... this was an acceptable treatment in its day.

What’s this contraption? We had no idea? The picture above is a cigarette lighter! There was one built in to each rec room at Eloise.

Check out the date on this left behind book!

The defunct power plant that was used to provide Eloise with electricity. People still try to break in here, but the building is dangerous... full of hazards and hazardous materials.

The old school air horn on the roof of Eloise. This was the original community alert system.

IMG-7875.jpgDonielle Flynn

Another creep room at Eloise... and it was still light out! It all got way more creepy after dark... we had to go!

IMG-7796.jpgDonielle Flynn

Eloise was the first place in the WORLD to do X-rays. The German scientist who came up with the technology was allowed to move in and use the patients as guinea pigs until he perfected his technology.

What is this? We didn’t know. John, the owner of Eloise, explained these were for bedpans.

IMG-7791-e1602529517476.jpg

The bed pans were made of metal in this time period. The bedpan was placed in the contraption for dumping and washing needs. Gross.

IMG-7797.jpg

Trousers! That should give you an idea of how long ago this label was made.

IMG-7799.jpgDonielle Flynn

We still don’t really know what this is... we found it in one of rooms with seed for mental “treatment” at Eloise. Lobotomies, electro-shock therapy and hydro therapy (think precursor to water boarding) were all performed at Eloise Asylum.

Eloise by night....

We got to sign the wall of fame at Eloise.

Westland has a beautiful library! Get in there!

IMG-7902.jpg

The community at the Concrete Jungle is amazing! Thanks for hanging with City of the Week!

IMG-7897.jpg

Westland, Michigan sign welcoming you to the community and displaying logos from organizations in Westland.

IMG-7893.jpg

Cameraman Steven felt it looked like this pumpkin had a butthole, Doni said that meant the picture had TWO buttholes in it.

IMG-7894.jpg

Ken’s Country Produce! Doni checked out their massive pumpkin selection. Ken’s place has been a part of Westland for 44 years. He started his business as a roadside stand on Ford Road.

The Westland Veteran’s Memorial Garden is a hidden gem in Westland. Beautiful memorials... it’s a serene, loving tribute to our fallen soldiers.

IMG-7905.jpg

It also has a special tribute section to MIA/POW soldiers.

IMG-7907.jpg

We highly recommend walking the Westland Memorial Garden (located adjacent to the Westland library).

Get out and enjoy the beautiful tributes your city has to offer!
