My dog, Biscuit, is shameless.  He bedhops all day and both he and my dog, Chewy, sleep the whole dang day while I’m at work.  I get greeted on my return home by an ABUNDANCE of energy (and a clear NEED for treats).  After the treats, they go back to lazying about… my sweet sleeping dogs.

Sleepfoundation.org states that dogs sleep an average of 11 hours a day, but they don’t get all that in at once. Dogs sleep roughly seven hours at night.  The rest of their rest is day-napping.  Bearaby.com says that puppies can sleep as much as 20 hours per day!  How much your dog sleeps varies by breed, size, and age.

Who Sleeps More: Dogs or Cats?

The obvious guess is cats, which is correct, according to the Purina website. The statistics listed say that cats sleep 13-16 hours a day.  That’s a lot of cat naps.  The reasoning is that cats hunt by nature (even domesticated cats). In “hunt” mode, they expend a ton of energy and adrenaline.  After a hunt, they sleep it off.

Did you know that on average, cats are most active at dawn and dusk?  Now you know why your cat may be so demanding for breakfast!

Enjoy my photographic proof of why my pets are full of it when I get home.  I quote Mark Slaughter, “SLEEP ALL DAY.”  Thank God, they aren’t also up all night… actually, those lazy babies sleep a good part of the evening too.
