Congratulations Sterling Heights! You are the WSX City of the Week! We got to explore a part of Sterling Heights that we had never been to before: The Sterling Heights Civic Center! It's a very cool set of buildings featuring City Hall, Police Headquarters, Community Center, Library and Skate Park all built around a historic landmark, The Upton House City Museum.

Joel's Notes

I went on to visit Lakeside Mall and pay my last respects to the mall of my life- Lakeside Mall. It was surreal to see the Lakeside so abandoned. I had so many fun times and memories of Lakeside- The Hydro Tube water slide, watching my sister ice skate there, visiting the T-shirt and Record stores were all there!

The now iconic giant Halo on Hall Road (aka The Golden B Hole?) was shining brightly in the morning sun- It really it beautiful! I learned that it The Halo is even Illuminated at night! Check out the extensive Public Art collection of Sterling Heights!

Big Jim's House Broadcasting Live

Big Jim's House will visit Kroger Fresh Marketplace in Sterling Heights next month, so I stopped in to scout out the location and meet some of the staff! Big Jim's House is teaming up with Kroger and Forgotten Harvest to help those in our community get the food they need. More details coming soon. Mark your calendar and join us live on Monday September 23rd from 6-10am!

While driving across Utica Road at Kleino- under the giant power lines- I saw a small flock of Wild Turkeys! I could not believe my eyes! I pulled over to get a picture of them for proof! Goble, Goble, Jive Turkeys!

Are these turkeys here all the time? (Joel Morgan from City of the Week is a big fan of the animal kingdom) It's wild turkey time in Sterling Heights!

Finally, I had to stop at Great Lakes Hobby & Toy where Doni and I once launched (accidently!) a model rocket across Van Dyke Avenue! It was great to see store owner Tom, manager Melissa and the rest of his staff and customers!!

The Upton City Museum in Sterling Heights is the heart of the Civic Center and on the Michigan Register of historic places! It's hard to believe that it still stands after all the development of the city!
