Wayne County – Taylor is always a fun destination for WCSX City of the Week. Many great WCSX Events have taken place over the years in this amazing community! WCSX has had Bonfires, Rock Concerts, Fishing Derbies and so many other events over the years!
Wayne County – Taylor History
The community of Wayne County – Taylor was originally a part of Ecorse Township. Taylor became and independent entity and chose the name Taylor in 1847. They named themselves in honor of war hero Zachary Taylor. Two years later, he became President Zachary Taylor.
Taylor’s roots go back to the 1800s, but they didn’t become a city until 1968. A lot of Michigan communities became cities in this same time period.
The Gateway Bridge in Wayne County – Taylor is a sight we all know. Built in 2006 preceding Detroit’s hosting of Superbowl 2006, the bridge’s design includes football shapes.
Joel’s Taylor Notes:
I ran into Classic Rocker, Marleen, outside of Skylar Laundromat– (It looks like a very cool laundromat!) she stopped me to ask how Screamin’ Scott Randall is and I let her know that he’s as rockin’ as ever! I even hooked her up with some WCSX stickers and a poster, too!
Heritage Park is always a great destination when visiting Taylor- they call it “The Jewel of the City”, and they are right! It’s a massive, beautiful park with so many cool attractions! It has a small village of antique buildings like a school house, wedding chapel (that you can rent to host your wedding!) There is also a pond you can fish in, a Conservatory and Botanical Garden, a Petting Farm (closed on Mondays, fyi!) and so much more!
It would not be a real City of the Week in Taylor without stopping at A & B Locksmith to visit my man John aka “The Key Master” of Taylor. I don’t know if they really call John the Key Master, but I think it would be a cool title because I love Ghostbusters, and that was a thing in that movie – haha! Seriously, John and his family have been serving Wayne County – Taylor for 50 years! Thanks for rockin’ with WCSX, John!
