  • Tug-of-War Tournament Day

BACK IN MY DAY, we played tug-of-war and we loved it! I always enjoyed Tug-of-War, but it’s also one of my favorite radio experiences. When I was living in Maryland, the station I worked for would host a Tug-of-War. The rope was super long and the tug-of-war took place on opposite shores of a bay! It was amazing!  Also, I got to MC on behalf of one of the opposing sides and talk a bunch of crap on the microphone, so you can imagine how much that made my day. LOL

  • Take a Monkey to Lunch Day

While this sounds like an amusing, but bad idea, Take a Monkey to Lunch Day is actually a day to reflect on history, specifically, the teaching of evolution in schools.  This stems all the way back to the 1920’s when the Butler Act was in play.  The Butler Act made it illegal to teach anything in school about evolution or anything that contradicted the creationism of the Bible.  “Take a Monkey to Lunch Day commemorates the Scopes Monkey Trial, where John Thomas Scopes, a science teacher from Dayton, Tennessee, was convicted of teaching evolution in a public school, which violated Tennessee law. The Scopes Trial is one of the most famous trials in US history, and the essential conflict at the heart of the case—the conflict between science and religion—is still hotly debated today.” – Checkiday.com
