    Clawson was once known as Pumachuga or “The Corners”.

    In 1880, the area had grown large enough to have a post office but needed an official name to get one.

    One version of the origin of the Clawson name was adopted as a not cool joke about the way an older woman who lived there named Lawson that stuttered.

    The other is that a state clerk misread the name of the postmaster who was named C. Lawson as CLAWSON.
  • Hey Calvin!

    Clawson was first settled in the 1820s by a farmer from Ohio named Calvin Marvin. His farm was on the North side of Clawson.

    The first major industry in Clawson was a sawmill developed by James B Johnson was situated on the south side.
