City of The Week Factoids - Rochester City of the Week

Congratulations to Fenton,

You’re the WCSX City of the Week from October 17th-21st!

Below are some important facts about Fenton that you can use to pass our Fenton City of the Week Quiz!

  • What's up in Fenton?

Fenton features award winning schools, family friendly neighborhoods, a historic downtown (known as Dibbleville) , beautiful parks and clean blue lakes!

  • How did Fenton get it's name?

Fenton was named after the winner of a poker game in 1837 between William Fenton and Robert Leroy. Mr. Fenton won the game and the honor to name the town; hence Fenton!  Mr. Leroy is honored by an important Fenton Street named after him.

  • what did they call it before they called it Fenton?

Before Mr. Fenton won the poker game, Fenton was known as Dibbleville. The name Dibbleville still remains in Fenton- it’s what they call the central  downtown shopping and dining district.

  • Hi Yo Silver!!!

The Silver Parkway is a special feature of Fenton that allows residents to stay close to home to shop for groceries, errands, quick shopping and dining.

  • Be what?

The motto of Fenton is: “Be Closer”.   That is a great way to describe Fenton!
