MC5 hasn’t released a new album in FIFTY years… that’s about to change. According to the Detroit Free Press,  Wayne Kramer of MC5 is ready to “Take it to the streets,” announcing an eight-date tour that kicks off May 5th at El Club in Detroit plus a new album that has help from some heavy hitters.  Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine co-wrote the first single with Wayne.  Check out the teaser video below.

Here’s Wayne Kramer talking about the album and tour:

  • Wait... Did he say, Bob Ezrin?

Yes, Professor Wayne did say, “Bob Ezrin.”  The new MC5 album is expected sometime in October.  Original MC5 drummer, Dennis Thompson, will be making an appearance on the album.  Also expect some special guests:  Tom Morello, William Duvall of Alice in Chains, and Detroit’s own Don Was, plus the album is being produced by Bob Ezrin.  But the influences don’t stop there.  Wayne said in a recent statement, “Bringing in other writers was like a hope injection. Tom Morello, Jill Sobule, Tim McIlrath, Kesha, and Alejandro Escovedo helped me expand the work using the most powerful weapon in existence: our creativity.” To read more on the Billboard story this quote came from, click HERE.

Wayne was also quoted via his YouTube videos, “I’ve come to understand that the music of The MC5 is as necessary as ever.”
