  • How Novi Got Its Name

    There are two theories on how Novi got it’s name. One is that the area was the sixth stop on the Detroit to Lansing toll road. In Roman numerals, it looks like ” No.VI “. The second theory is it was the sixth township in South Oakland County.
  • First Settlers

    One of the first settlers in the area (1825!) was Erastus Ingersoll, who is said to have invented the first farm mowing machine in the United States.

  • I-96 Freeway

    In the 1950’s, the construction of the I-96 freeway to Lansing sparked a developmental and economic boom in Novi.

  • When Novi Became A City

    Novi became a city in 1969.

  • Novi Construction In The 1970's

    The 1970’s brought the construction of 12 Oaks Mall, Novi Expo Center and a new civic center on 10 Mile Road.
  • Residential Growth

    Due to convenient freeways, quality schools and access to Detroit’s water and sewage systems, residential growth exploded in the 90’s.

  • What Novi Is Known For Today

    Today Novi is known as a destination for shopping, dining, hotels and entertainment.
