Pucker up Butter Cup! It’s International Kissing Day! The first thing I think of when someone “rates” kisses is when Peter Falk reads The Princess Bride to a young Fred Savage. He says ““Since the invention of the kiss there have been five kisses that were rated the most passionate, the most pure. This one left them all behind.” He described the ultimate kiss as the kiss between Princess Buttercup and Wesley. Let’s talk about some Great Cinematic Kisses.
I remember while watching the Lord of the Rings, my wife was invested in these characters. She cried when Gandalf fell and needed reassurance that he would return in the next movie (which I was confident about since I read the books, nerd). But I was most surprised by the audible sigh of relief she experienced when Aragorn and Arwen finally kissed (which was not in the books but put in the movies for that Romance bonus).
How many romcoms have I endured and heard that same audible sigh since and before? Many. So many. From Harry Met Sally, How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days, to pick literally any movie with Jennifer Aniston! But she puts up with so much, she deserves to have this moment of kissing Zen.
How To Kiss?
And what can one do to achieve that same kiss in life? Do I have to fend off hoards of monsters to save her before a raging villain kills us all? Perhaps I have to cross oceans fighting off sharks to finally find her after years of being lost? Or do I ignorantly pursue the hot girl who only cares for money and fame while the true love is that nerdy girl with glasses right next to me? And when she pulls those glasses off and unwinds that hair and she’s revealed to be Jennifer Aniston!
Since 1993, MTV has been giving out awards for Best Kiss. Check out all the winners here. Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart have the most wins, for the Twilight film series.
