Has Pumpkin Spice Gone Too Far? Or Should The Spice Keep Going?
Ahhh, Fall. So many great things are associated with Fall. The changing of the leaves, cooler weather, sweaters and hoodies, candy and Halloween, and of course PUMPKIN SPICE EVERYTHING! So has Pumpkin Spice gone too far? Or do you want more and more and more?
I know it is almost too easy to talk about the amount of Pumpkin Spice products, but they make it EASY! You can barely walk two feet into a grocery store, party store, or gas station, without bumping into some kind of Pumpkin Spice something.
My wife has absolutely no problem with that, but for me, I am somewhat indifferent about it. But I have to admit, it is getting a bit crazy. She currently owns Dunkin Donut Pumpkin Spice Goldfish Crackers, Pumpkin Spice Cheerios, and of course, Starbucks’ Pumpkin Spice Coffee in KCups. That’s it so far, but more is sure to follow.
Listen, I am quite content with my Count Chocula Cereal as my seasonal treat. Which seems harder and harder to find. Seriously Krogers, what’s your beef with the Count?
The use of pumpkin spice goes way back, but when did the actual marketing craze begin? According to Food and Wine, the craze started with Starbucks’ Pumpkin Spice Latte introduced in 2003.
The drink was invented by Starbucks employee Peter Dukes. His team had a unique method of testing the flavors by pouring espresso shots onto pumpkin pies. And changing the ratios of nutmeg, cinnamon, coffee, and steamed milk. My wife would have a fulfilled life with that career.
Now the spice has infiltrated almost every corner of the grocery store and beyond. There are products both delicious and hilarious. From cereals to cosmetics to drinks, pumpkin spice is here to stay.
So I compiled a few that I thought were a bit too much, or maybe they are not enough. For pumpkin spice fans, they might be perfect!
