Screamin’ Scott

Screamin’ Scott

Screamin’ Scott

The former Van Halen vocalist. Known for his wild persona on and off stage, Roth had a pretty successful solo career before rejoining the band after more than 20 years.

Rock And Roll has been around since the 1950s; in its brief time, we have had its share of fools.

According to Webster’s Dictionary, a fool is a person who lacks good sense or judgment or who acts foolishly:

  • A person who is somewhat deficient in intellect but not an idiot
  • A person who acts absurdly
  • A person who pursues a course contrary to the dictates of wisdom
  • A person who spends money too quickly on unimportant things

But What About Fools When It Comes To Music?

We learned, “ It’s Only Rock & Roll,” but I like it.

So, when I had a moment in my spare time, I took it upon myself to look back at some of the great music over the years that dealt with “Fools.” Trust me, it didn’t take long for my memory to come back and a little help from social media.

Many songs that used “Fool” in the lyrics and title came to mind—songs from my childhood, as well as some that amazingly just came out of nowhere.

See if some of these tunes make you remember the fools in your life and start 2025 with a big smile. Trust me, this is just what the world needs now: a big smile.

  • David Lee Roth - Two Fools A Minute

Two Fools a Minute · David Lee Roth from his skyscraper 1988 release from Warner Brothers. The sound is incredible on this album. I don’t know if it was over produced but the sound is thick and rich. DLR’s vocals are spot on as well as the guitar work from Steve Vai I mean c’mon is amazing. The song is about David’s life in little over 3 mins. Fun and rock and roll.

  • Foghat - Fool for the City

Foghat’s Fool for the City album. I wore out this album, especially on one side of the album. The tracks went, 1. Fool for the City 2. My Baby 3. Slow Ride.  The album was released in 1975 and was a huge hit for the band. They played all over the Detroit area in concert for many years. But one of my childhood favorites I had in my record collection.

  • The Beatles - Fool on the Hill

The Fool on the Hill” is a song by the Beatles from their 1967 EP and album Magical Mystery Tour. It was written and sung by Paul McCartney and credited to the Lennon–McCartney partnership.  The song’s segment in the Magical Mystery Tour television film was shot separately from the rest of the film and without the other Beatles’ knowledge. Accompanied by a professional cameraman, McCartney filmed the scene near Nice in France.  A solo demo and an outtake of the song were included on the Beatles’ 1996 compilation album Anthology 2. The movie is very strange but if you are a Beatles fan there are lots of clues and fun in the movie.

  • Doobie Brothers - What A Fool Believes

What a Fool Believes” is a song written by Michael McDonald and Kenny Loggins. The best-known version was recorded by The Doobie Brothers for their 1978 album Minute by Minute. The song was one of the few non-disco No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 during the first eight months of 1979. The song received Grammy Awards in 1980 for both Song of the Year and Record of the Year. In 2024, the song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.

  • The Who - We Won't Get Fooled Again

The Who’s iconic anthem from 1971’s Who’s Next album was performed here at Shepperton Studios on 25 May 1978. Filmed by Jeff Stein for the closing sequence of The Kids Are Alright. Sadly this was to be the very last performance ever by Keith Moon.  Roger over the years finally stopped doing the long scream in concert simply saying I’ve had enough.  The Who will continue in 2025 with some live shows.

  • Def Leppard - Foolin'

“Foolin’” from 1983  by the band Def Leppard from their diamond album Pyromania. , it reached #9 on the Billboard Charts. The video shows Elliott escaping from his evil girlfriend in a fantasy sequence, interspersed with scenes of the band performing on a concert stage. It features Billy Idol’s then-girlfriend Perri Lister playing the harp with her eyes closed.

  • STYX - Fooling Yourself ( The Angry Young Man)

STYX, “Fooling Yourself (The Angry Young Man)” is the second single released from Styx‘s The Grand Illusion (1977) album. The song was written by guitarist Tommy Shaw, who sings lead vocals on it. It was originally based on Shaw’s perception of Styx keyboardist Dennis DeYoung which is kind of funny when you think of it. The song is a fan favorite live.  Catch STYX live in concert presented by WCSX. more info by clicking on this link
