Why Dave Mustaine is Pissed at Peter Frampton
Megadeth leader Dave Mustaine isn’t too happy with recent comments made by Peter Frampton regarding recently canceled shows.
On September 15, Megadeth issued a statement saying they were forced to cancel their show at Virginia Credit Union Live in Richmond, Virgina “due to unexpected and unpredictable circumstances.” This cancelation happened hours before the show, and at that time, there was no elaboration on what exactly led to the show’s cancelation.
On September 17, Frampton had to cancel his show at Virginia Credit Union Live. In a statement, the reason for the cancelation was “due to unforeseen circumstances.”
Per Ultimate Classic Rock, Frampton addressed the recent cancelation during a September 19 show in Philadelphia. Frampton told the crowd that weather led to the cancelation, but he also mentioned that after Megadeth did their sound check, ” … there was structural damage to the stage.”
Frampton added, “I’m not blaming them — could have been another band — but it looks pretty like it. So, sorry, Megadeth. I had to rat on you.”
This then led Megadeth to issue a statement via SRO PR. The band said, “Megadeth did not even get a chance to sound check at all in Richmond, Virginia contrary to what Peter Frampton reports. Megadeth’s rigger was in the venue’s steel grid system above the stage getting ready to hang the lights when he noticed there was damage to the venue’s grid. He pointed this out immediately to the promoters and the venue.”
The band’s statement continued, “It was determined that it was unsafe for Megadeth to hang their production or put the band on stage at the risk of in-house grid failure to support the weight of the touring lighting and sound which could fall on the band, crew members, or audience, as it could cause serious injury or death. Therefore, Megadeth, the local promoter, the venue, and booking agents had no other option than to cancel the show.”
Mustaine then added in a personal statement, “It seems Frampton was misinformed about our show being canceled. The decision was purely based on safety. It’s disappointing when someone you admire talks out their ass about you.”
As of publishing, neither Frampton nor his ass has responded to Mustaine’s statement. Surely, Frampton didn’t mean to ruffle Mustaine’s feather on this one. But jeez…what is up with classic rockers and metalheads being at odds lately? First, there was Neal Schon being mad at Avenged Sevenfold, and now Frampton and Mustaine/Megadeth? Hopefully, all parties will make amends and move on quickly.
