  • Rochester Settlers

    Rochester was settled by people from Rochester New York in 1817 . The first house in what was later to become Oakland County was built in Rochester.  It was a log cabin that was located on a plot that is just south of today’s East Alley on Third Street.  In 1869, Rochester became a village and only as recently as 1969 became a city.

  • Rochester's Slogan and Why It Is The Slogan It Is

    The slogan of Rochester is “Where you live.”  Today Rochester has a bustling downtown with over 350 shops salons, restaurants and professional services businesses.  Older homes and newer subdivisions surround the downtown area. It’s a mix of historic and hip.  The City of Rochester has many playgrounds, parks and two winding trails to serve its residents. Rochester is also known for great schools including Oakland University, the second largest university in the Detroit Metropolitan Area with roughly 20,012 students.

  • What Rochester Is Known For

    Rochester is an active community known for hosting great festivals and annual events such as the Farmer’s Market, Downtown Sidewalk Sales, the Soap Box Derby race, The Heritage Festival, Art and Apples, and the perhaps most famously: The Big Bright Light Show, downtown Rochester’s holiday lightshow extravaganza.
