City of The Week Factoids - Rochester City of the Week

Congratulations to Bloomfield Hills: City of the Week with WCSX! According to the Bloomfield Historical Society, Bloomfield Hills is the oldest township in Oakland County formed in 1827.

In 1827, Bloomfield Hills was officially chartered as one of the 25 townships of Oakland County. In 1938 a railroad was built from Detroit through Royal Oak and arriving in Birmingham. The railroad was continued from Birmingham to Pontiac in 1842.

Bloomfield Hills is home to the Franklin Cider Mill.

Franklin Grist Mill was completed after three years in 1837. The construction was completed by Peter VanEvery who had purchased it and the land from W. Matthews. The mill changed hands over the course of the 19th and 20th centuries.

By 1918 the mill was purchased by Robert McKee who changed the grist mill into a cider mill. But it was the Peltz family who purchased the mill in 1968 who are still running the mill today.

Franklin Cider Mill’s hours are 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM Daily
