Merriam-Webster just added 370 new words and phrases, including “pumpkin spice,” “side hustle,” “yeet,” “sus,” and “Metaverse.”

Merriam-Webster just added 370 new words and phrases to its dictionary, including one we’ve heard a lot the past month . . . “PUMPKIN SPICE.”  Here are a few more worth mentioning.

Now I am going to be honest with you, I don’t know what half of these words even mean. Thankfully for us they have descriptions for each word.

I think I have it figured out though. Most of these words are just abbreviations of actual real words that have been around forever.

For example. The word, SUS has been added to the Merriam Webster Dictionary. The I guess word now SUS is just short for suspect, it doesn’t end with that word though. Another one that was added is Laggy. Laggy is just a cooler way of saying Lag. That is it, we have become such lazy people that we don’t even want to say full words anymore.

Here is my 31 year old angry rant!

I blame it on texting, when texting began to get really big people started shortening words. For example, You became U and “See you there” became CUT. So it has to be because of text that no one wants to say the words in their full form.

Okay short rant!

I do have a question about a word not on this list. Have you ever heard someone use the word “bet” as a way to agree with you? My friends have been using the word for a while and I honestly do not get it.

For example, I told my buddy I was on my way to his house. He responded by saying “Bet”, I had no idea what he meant. Finally after asking him, he laughed in my face and said it means, “cool or Ok, or see you soon”

All I know is I say dude and man a lot, I will just stick to those!
