John 5 Says Steve Perry Wants to Work With Him, Comments on Album with David Lee Roth
John 5 is best known for his work with the likes of Rob Zombie and Marilyn Manson, but the guitarist said Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Steve Perry has shown an interest in collaborating.
John 5 told WRIF’s Steve Black in a new interview, “Whenever I get a chance, of course, I love working on music with people and friends. Steve Perry, who’s a good friend of mine, maybe we’ll do some stuff in the future. He says he wants to get together and do some writing. There’s always something going on. That’s for sure.”
Obviously, on the surface, John 5 and Perry wouldn’t seem like two musicians who’d be pals, but John 5 said, “We have a great time. He is the coolest dude and is such a great person. Like if he wasn’t Steve Perry and he’s just like this regular dude, we’d [still] be great friends, because he’s that cool. He’s such a great person, so I’m really happy to have him in my life. He’s really, really kind.”
John 5 indirectly made headlines recently when David Lee Roth said on Talkin’ Rock with Meltdown the album they made a handful of years ago will finally get released. John 5, who served as Roth’s guitarist from 1998-2003, said, “I talk to Dave all of the time, of course. He’s getting ready for his Vegas residency, so I hope that does see the light of day. It would be wonderful. I love Dave. He’s one of my heroes, so it would be great to have more music from Dave [even] if it wasn’t just from me. I mean, it’s great that it’s with me, but any music coming out from Dave Roth will be really exciting.”
