The Top-Selling Rock Album in the U.S. is by Miley Cyrus
Yes, you read that headline correctly: Miley Cyrus currently has the top-selling rock album in the United States.
Per Billboard, Cyrus’ new rock album, Plastic Hearts, moved 60,000 units in its first week of release. This marks the first appearance on Billboard’s Top Rock Albums chart by Cyrus in her career and the fourth time this year a woman has topped the chart. Previous albums by women that have topped the chart in 2020 include Fiona Apple’s Fetch the Bolt Cutters, Hayley Williams’ Petals for Armor and Alanis Morissette’s Such Pretty Forks in the Road.
Billboard also notes, “Concurrently, seven songs from ‘Plastic Hearts’ reach the multi-metric Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart, led by the title track, which starts at No. 8 with 3.7 million U.S. streams and 2,000 downloads. Others joining ‘Plastic Hearts’: ‘Night Crawling,’ featuring Billy Idol (No. 12), ‘WTF Do I Know’ (No. 13), ‘Gimme What I Want’ (No. 16), ‘High’ (No. 18, as well as No. 14 on Hot Alternative Songs) and ‘Bad Karma,’ featuring Joan Jett (No. 19). Additionally, Cyrus’ cover of The Cranberries’ ‘Zombie’ from the album’s digital and streaming edition re-enters at No. 26.
This latest release from Cyrus is a continuation of the singer embracing more and more rock influences. She has covered a number of rock songs this year in various performances including Pearl Jam’s “Just Breathe” and The Velvet Underground’s “Sweet Jane.” Cyrus also made headlines when she said she was working on a Metallica covers album.
