What is Going On In Beautiful Brighton?
Calling All Pinball Wizards
The Ann Arbor Pinball Museum is actually in beautiful Brighton! It features hundreds of old-school pinball games dating back to the start of pinball in the 1930’s and every decade to date! The thing is: They are NOT open for the public to play pinball there due to city restrictions. They are only open 4 weekends a year to play pinball and one of them is coming up on May 4th and 5th! The 2024 Ann Arbor Pinball Show is the largest in the world. More than 525 “pingames” will be a part of the event. Tickets are required: Ticket info here.
Rock and Roll AirBNB
Featuring a Jam Room, Jerry Garcia room, Taylor Swift Bedroom (Yow!) Flower Power Room, The Purple Rain Room, Zen Room, and more, The Rock N Roll AirBNB is a great call for music lovers and it has a 4.86 rating! You can take a virtual tour HERE. Make a reservation and start planning your visit to Brighton! The owner, Becky, also has a local band called PB and Jam. She loves sharing her love of music!
Get Out In Beautiful Brighton!
Like to get outside? the Brighton Recreation Area is a great place to enjoy the Great Outdoors! Nearly 5000 acres are home to nine beautiful lakes for boating, fishing, and swimming. Plus five campgrounds, a disc golf course and picnic areas. You can hike, mountain bike or ride horseback on the 35 miles of trail. Plus you’ll enjoy hills, forest, open spaces, grassy fens and marches. Lots of wildlife like birds and critters (squirrels!) to observe, too!
Art Outside!
Brighton has the equivalent of an outdoor art gallery in their downtown area. The Brighton Outdoor Sculpture Exhibit is presented by the Brighton Arts and Culture Commission and is helped funded by Brighton Downtown Development Authority. Started in 20 years ago, the exhibit currently features 28 installations that help beautify downtown Brighton and make it prominent of the Michigan Arts scene.
Joel’s Notes
My wife’s parents live in beautiful Brighton, so I started off my visit meeting them at the Brighton MJR Movie Cinemas for matinee getaway! We had planned on seeing Godzilla Vs. King Kong 2, but the movie had had its run at the theatre. So my father-in law, Dave, and I posed for a “funny photo” in front of the movie posters. It looked like I was trying to put a 94.7 WCSX poster over a movie!
Big thanks for my mother-in law, Karen for taking the photo of us! I was very proud to show and tell them about my job at WCSX City of the Week, and I appreciated the background and suggestions regarding places of interest in Brighton!
I was driving on Grand River Avenue when I saw this BRIGHT, warm, neon glow from this shop attracted me like a insect to a bug light! It was the inside of Dream Garage, a store that sells awesome auto-themed items like neon signs and clocks, gas pumps, collectible advertising, and all things “automobilia.” Dream Garage even has a Big Boy restaurant statue you can buy to turn your drive way into a Drive-IN!
Karen recommended visiting Oh My Lolli, a candy store in downtown Brighton. I caught candy crafters, Paige and Tyler at a good time. They were waiting for their next batch of candy to be ready. The candy is made in-house at Oh My Lolli! You can custom order hard candy that will make your message sweeter!
The highlight of my visit to beautiful Brighton was The Ann Arbor Pinball Museum that is actually IN BRIGHTON! This place pinball heaven! SERIOUSLY. It’s one of the most comprehensive pinball machine collections IN THE WORLD! From the start of pinball in the 1930’s all the way through the current games of today, this place is beyond amazing.
I saw pinball games that I have not seen since I was a kid: the first Star Trek, Black Knight, and an original The Who’s TOMMY movie pinball machines! The Ann Arbor Pinball Museum also has a very rare Rolling Stones pinball machine from 1980. It’s one of only about 700 hundred made!
