The Detroit classic Boston Cooler… I love it. No recipe is neccesary. We ALL know it’s ice cream and Vernors… Our Michigan twist on the root beer float. Other areas of the country have had the AUDACITY to claim that the Boston Cooler originated in their city, but we know the truth. 🙂 The Boston cool got its name from Boston Boulevard and its proximity to the first Vernor’s original soda fountain. I’m a Michigander, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it. While the charming story of our Boston Coolers makes a ton of sense, originally, Boston coolers were made with ice cream and ANY type of pop.
After Game of Cones AND the release of Blackcherry Vernors, naturally, my mind went to FLOATS. Vicki’s Homemade Ice Cream and Vernor’s? Don’t mind if I do! There are also a bunch of ice cream float reasons to celebrate you may be unaware of.

A WCSX listener, Keith, called me recently and mentioned that he had looked up some float recipes including a KEY LIME PIE FLOAT. I thought the idea was amazing and float recipes should be shared. Here’s the cream of the crop of float recipes that I was able to find after scouring the internet… OK, mostly Pinterest… I can seriously go down a rabbit hole on Pinterest. There’s a CIDER ICE CREAM FLOAT RECIPE! Genius! Plus an idea for a portable ice cream float bar (how fun!) and a Halloween ice cream float!
