We were introduced to some outstanding new TV shows in 2023. From sitcoms to horrors, the year has given us some programs that are sure to become classics. However, which ones were the best?

I’m not afraid to admit I spend a lot of time watching TV. With so many options and streaming services these days, we’ve never had more content at our fingertips. There’s Netflix, Max, Hulu, Amazon, Crackle, and more–not to mention good old basic cable.

Must-Watch New TV Shows

It’s been cool to watch the awards shows because of how much they’ve changed over the past few years. It seems like most of the notable shows are now being hosted on these streaming apps, instead of on regular television. It seems like these days majority of nominations aren’t coming from channels like NBC, ABC, CBS, or Fox.

At this point, all those stations are really good for are local news and live sports. Of course, as you’ve likely seen in Hulu’s commercials, they also have live sports. So, basic cable is barely hanging on.

Regardless of what your go-to platform of choice is, there’s great content available. Growing up, the biggest stars in Hollywood did movies. Working on a TV show was probably considered beneath them. Today? It’s definitely not the same.

Some of the biggest names in entertainment have turned to TV shows or mini series. In 2023 alone, Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman starred in Hulu’s Faraway Downs. Emma Stone stars in Showtime’s The Curse. Additionally, Oscar winner Brie Larson stars in Lessons In Chemistry on Apple TV+.

To celebrate the year, I’ve picked out five of my favorite new tv shows of 2023. It really is impressive how many gems came out this year, compared to new tv shows that have come out in other recent years. There are so many good choices it’s hard to get to them all! So, I suggest you start with these five outstanding choices. No matter what type of show you’re into–comedy, thrillers, horrors, or documentaries–there’s something on this list for you!

  • The Last Of Us

You can’t talk about the best new shows of 2023 and not mention The Last Of Us on Max. You just can’t. The popular video game was made into a show this year and fans of the game and new fans alike seem to enjoy the show. The show totaled 24 Emmy nominations this year. Did anyone have a better year than Pedro Pascal? I don’t know…

  • Jury Duty

Personally, my favorite new show of 2023 was Jury Duty on Amazon’s Freevee. It is nothing short of brilliant. The show follows jurors on a court case, but the catch is it’s all fake. Everything is staged and everyone is an actor…except for one guy. Only one person isn’t in on the joke and hilarity ensues as we watch him struggle to believe the situation he’s been placed in. Gold!

  • Goosebumps

We got a new Goosebumps series this year and it definitely did not disappoint. I was a little nervous at the beginning of the first episode. It’s definitely aimed at Gen Z. However, as it went on I got more and more into it and now I’m bummed the season is over! Justin Long is great and the young cast hold up their end of the deal. Glad I gave it a chance. Check it out on Hulu or Disney+ today!

  • Shrinking

I’m a big fan of Jason Segel. He always delivers great performance where he can be funny or serious. I find him very relatable in his roles. He was outstanding in Shrinking. The show really brings out the best of him. Highly recommend this one on Apple TV+.

  • Fall Of The House Of Usher

For me, this was one of the most anticipated shows of 2023. I’m happy to say it didn’t let me down. Mike Flanagan always delivers outstanding horror content, and he kept that going with The Fall Of The House Of Usher on Netflix. Another instant classic from one of the best in the game right now. Can I say the best? I am.
