Fall is my favorite season… the good Fall… sunshine, cooler temperatures, no mosquitos and no humidity… coupled with the changing leaves, it makes for a fantastic backdrop to any adventure.  There are a few traditional activities I try to make happen every Fall:

  • #1: The Pumpkin Patch

I don’t care how old you are, pumpkin patches make people happy. I love going out, looking for my perfect pumpkins, drinking some cider and taking in a bit of nature.  It’s also excellent for photo ops. One of my favorite pumpkin patches that we visited with City of the Week is DeBucks Pumpkin Patch and Corn Maze. Super nice people and tons of family activities plus a GIANT corn maze.
  • #2: Halloween Decorations

My Halloween decorations actually beat out my Christmas decorations.. inside and out. I love the warm Fall colors and I have an obsession with fun, cozy lighting.

  • #3: Pumpkin Carving And Seeds

I love carving pumpkins, but if I’m going to get REALLY fancy, I like the fake pumpkins so I can show off my work year after year. Having said that, fake pumpkins don’t have seeds and pumpkin seeds are THE BEST. I soak mine in salt water over night.  Then I dry them a bit with paper towels. I bake my pumpkin seeds at 400 degrees on parchment paper (sprinkle with a bit more salt before cooking). The parchment paper keeps the seeds from sticking to your pan. Keep an eye on your oven! Pumpkin seeds vary greatly on cooking time. I also found this cool recipe for Pumpkin seeds.. you BOIL them first! Tons of great reviews… I might have to try this:
  • #4: Costumed Events

Listen, if I don’t have a party to go to, I dress up for work, but one way or another, you have to have some sort of costume for the Halloween season. Even a hat can work! Something! I have an “everyday witches’ hat.” Nope, I’m not kidding. I bust that sucker out every Fall.

  • #5: Scenic Drives And Walks

This is Michigan! Drive around and check it out as the leaves change! Don’t take the color for granted. One windy rain storm and it’s done for the year.  Get out there and enjoy it! We love going to our local park. Plenty of trees and nature… also more photo ops.
This is MICHIGAN! We are BEAUTIFUL! Happy Fall!
