What could possibly be more Motor City than the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix Presented by Lear? A race through the streets of Detroit for the first time in 30 years. For my history, the Detroit GP had always been held on Belle Isle. It was news to me, not that many years ago, that the race once ran on the streets of Detroit. My first thought was, “They would never be allowed to do that today.” But they did and it was magnificent.
Jim O’Brien of Big Jim’s House was asked to be a track announcer at the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix and he said, “Hell yes.” Jim had an amazingly busy weekend, but it was one he will never forget. CHEVROLET DETROIT GRAND PRIX HIGHLIGHTS:
Alex Palou drove to victory in the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix Presented by Lear… This was Alex’s second win this season in the NTT IndyCar Series.
The Chip Ganassi Racing team showed extremely well. Four out of four of its drivers were in the top 10 at the Detroit GP. Ganassi also has three of the top four in the championship standings. Scott Dixon is currently fourth in the championship after a fourth finish at the Detroit GP.
Flavor Flav surprised the Team Penske pit with a stop-in. Defending NTT Indy Car Series champion, Will Power said it was a highlight of the event for him: “I said to Flavor Flav, ‘You know, people today are going to have to ‘Fight the Power,’ ” referring to one of Public Enemy’s best-known songs. “And it was true! They had to ‘Fight the Power.’ ” Will finished the Detroit GP in second place, but he got first for dad jokes. I kid. I kid… Listen in on Big Jim’s interview with Will Power when you CLICK HERE.
