In 1982, Dutch musician Taco had “Puttin’ On The Ritz,” his chart-topping hit, which made many viewers at home hungry to watch their MTV music video. Fast-forward to 2024, and downtown Royal Oak was Putting on the Ritz as the third annual Royal Oak Taco Fest took over the downtown and, with it, the Independence Day weekend.
The Royal Oak Taco Fest featured over 50 food trucks that could quell anyone’s hunger during the hot summer temperatures. In addition to feeding the foodies and admirers of taquerias, the festival also indulged in plenty of street fair staples such as live music entertainment, taco-eating contests, plenty of cold drinks, and even Lucha Libre wrestling.
The 94.7 WCSX street team had plenty to Taco-Bout and plenty of swag to giveaway as Jenny Jenny from the Big Jim’s Morning Show and City of the Week specialist Joel Morgan showed up to bring the classic rock to Royal Oak Taco Fest.
One thing is for certain: whether it’s soft shell or hard shell, flour or corn tortillas, crushed or wrapped, we just can’t get enough of the taco. It’s estimated that over 4 billion are consumed by Americans every year. Well, enough talk about them; let’s have a “spec-taco-lar” look at the Royal Oak Taco Fest.
