DETROIT FIREWORK HISTORY:
The fireworks on the River we renamed the “Ford Fireworks” as a sponsorship deal back in 2013. But, the legacy of the fireworks was well established dating back to the 1950s. The Fireworks first took place in 1958, as a way to locally celebrate Independence day. Although back then the firework display was much smaller, the event still attracted thousands of people.
Fast forward to the 80s and 90s, the Fireworks began to gain popularity and the displays of fireworks match the crowds. The shows got bigger and the Detroit Fireworks grew into one of the best shows in the country. As a shared event with our friends in Canada, it was great to see the event bigger than ever this year. It’s safe to say the “Ford fireworks” will be around for years to come!
