Beetlejuice 2 Is a Go and the Rumors Fly!

Don’t say Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice! The infamous saying to summon the wild undead spookster Beetlejuice! And now, according to backstage.com, as of February 2023, production is confirmed a go for Beetlejuice 2! But what we know and what rumors are going around is very interesting.

The ghost with the most dazzled us when Beetlejuice was released on March 30th, 1988. Directed by Tim Burton who had just succeeded with his film “Pee Wee’s Big Adventure“. Burton’s Beetlejuice incorporated everything that we love about Burton today. The blend of life and death. Stop animation. Wild colors and even wilder characters.

The production of Beetlejuice 2 has been in development hell since 1990. It was passed from writer to writer till it landed in the lap of Mike Vukadinovich in 2017. So where the script is at now, is anyone’s guess. However, Brad Pitt’s production company Plan B took over last February. Not a bad name to have attached to your production.

Being a huge fan of Burton, I am beyond excited at this possibility. Tim Burton has so many good films and coming back to one of the best will be fun if all the parts align. It is very tough to succeed with a sequel. Especially with a sequel so far from the original. But Top Gun 2 blew the doors off of that, so maybe Beetlejuice 2 can come back strong. I’m going to be there regardless

What We Know

Here’s what we know so far about Beetlejuice 2. According to backstage.com, Tim Burton is confirmed to be directing. And that takes care of the number one want. Number two would be Michael Keaton who is also strongly rumored to reappear as Beetlejuice. But like all the rumors, not 100% confirmed.

But the best part of any speculation is the rumor mill. And Beetlejuice 2 is trending again because of some big rumors. And here are the rumors so far:

  • Jenna Ortega

Yes, the new gothic queen of Wednesday is rumored to be involved with the movie. Rumor would be that she would be Lydia’s daughter, which couldn’t be a more perfect casting. Would it be too similar to Wednesday? Tim Burton loves working with people he’s already worked with. I’d say this is a strong possibility. The thought is generating plenty of buzz.

  • Johnny Depp

WOAH! Yes, Tim Burton’s favorite actor may appear in the film. Whom would he be? My guess is a competing antagonist against Beetlejuice. Depp is listed on IMDB along with Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder. Considering there are few Tim Burton movies WITHOUT Johnny, it wouldn’t be a huge leap to have him on.

  • Winona Ryder

None of the cast has been confirmed, but if we are going to have Lydia’s daughter, it would seem wise to have Lydia Deetz also. And Winona has been trending for years because of her involvement with Stranger Things.

  • Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis

Very little has been rumored about their return, but I would say highly in doubt. Baldwin is in serious legal trouble and Geena would probably not return without Alec as that would make little sense. I don’t think this is the type of production that would just wash over a missing character without some serious thought behind it. However, Geena has expressed interest.

  • David Harbour

Hmmm. Perhaps Winona Ryder put in a good word for David because he is rumored to be a real estate agent in the new movie. Perhaps another Winona plus David relationship? The cross-over possibilities are endless! Screenrant.com says the reason this rumor exists is because of the IMDB synopsis of the film. Which alters on a daily basis, so take this with a grain of salt.

  • Will Arnett

Also because of IMDB, rumored to be a character called the “Jersey Devil”.

  • John-Claude Van Damme

Please, no. Just no. Why would that even be a thing? Joblo.com says it’s a possibility. I hope they’re wrong. It’s just a quick one-off joke and not even relevant. We could throw in whomever at this point! How about Stallone? Or Micheal Jordan?
