• Who settled Garden City?

  Irish settlers came to Garden City in the 1830’s. Garden City was once even known as “New Ireland” and “Irish Town”.

• A city of gardens?

  Property in garden City was first sold in one acre lots, so that each resident had enough land to grow their own fruit and vegetables. Like a “Garden City”!

• What changed Garden City?

  Garden City was mostly Home Farm properties until the rise of the Detroit Automotive Industry in the 1930’s

• How old is Garden City?

  Garden City officially became a city in 1933.

• Garden City Firsts!

  Garden City was home to the very first K-Mart store, the very first Little Caesar’s Pizza location, and the first sit-down/dine-in McDonald’s in Michigan!
