    Shelby Township is named after Issac Shelby, who led troops from Kentucky to fight in the War of 1812.

    Shelby Township has been a stop on the underground railroad, home to a Mennonite community, a hide out for Whisky smugglers, the Packard Motors proving Grounds, and legendary Detroit Boxer Joe Louis’ training camp!

    Shelby Township is home to several awesome parks including Stoney Creek Metro Park, River Bends Park, and Mae Stecker park just to name a few. They have so many parks they call Shelby Township a “Suburban Wilderness”!

  • What do you have to prove?

    The Packard Motors Proving Grounds was built in 1927 and used to test new Packard car designs until 1957. Today the site is maintained as a museum complex, and is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places.
