It’s been rumored for some time, but it’s now official: WWE SummerSlam Detroit is happening!

While WrestleMania is WWE’s biggest show of the year, because of the spectacle,  most Wrestling fans consider SummerSlam the show for them. The WWE’s Biggest Party of the summer, is coming to Detroit’s Ford Field on Saturday night August 5th, which is going to be a busy day in downtown Detroit read more on that on Shannon’s Scoop. WWE’s second or third biggest show of the year (depending on who you ask) will be in the D.

Most wrestling fans start booking their card for “the biggest party of the summer” just after WrestleMania. I am going to give you the five matches that MUST happen at Ford Field this August!

The result of the main event of WrestleMania last month in Los Angeles, caught a lot of wrestling fans off guard. WWE can right the wrong in Detroit! The WWE Draft that followed Mania, produced some interesting results. Bianca Belair (RAW Women’s Champion) and Rhea Ripley (SmackDown Women’s Champion) swapping shows and taking their titles with them.

With Triple H coming up on one year taking over running WWE creative, the biggest money match in the Women’s Division, is Rhea Ripley vs. Bianca Belair. That match will close out WrestleMania 40 in 2023 in Philadelphia, in my opinion. So we’ll continue this awkward wrong colored belt on each show stuff until then.

The last time SummerSlam was in Detroit, was in 1992. Lex Luger won his WWE Championship Match against Yokozuna via countout and celebrated like he became champion. 30 years later, that wrong can be righted, by having Cody Rhodes avenge his WrestleMania 39 loss, by winning the WWE Championship.

These are five matches that MUST happen at WWE SummerSlam Detroit.

  • Roman Reigns vs. "The American Nightmare" Cody Rhodes WWE Universal Title Match

Everyone, myself included, was expecting Cody Rhodes to win the WWE Championship at WrestleMania in Los Angeles. That didn’t happen and the two were drafted to different shows. But there’s still a way to make it happen. The Money in the Bank briefcase has needed a revamp for years, and this could be it, Have Cody win the briefcase and call his shot for SummerSlam and finish his story.

  • Rhea Ripley (C) vs. Becky Lynch SmackDown Women's Title Match

Becky Lynch is WWE’s biggest female star and Rhea Ripley is on the rise and after defeating Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania. This match has already been teased, and Becky’s match with WWE Hall of Famer, Trish Stratus (that was rumored for SummerSlam) happening at Night of Champions, it clears the path for this match.

  • Austin Theory (C) vs. Monte Ford WWE United States Title Match

Everyone has been predicting a break up of the Street Profits for about a year now, I think this year they’ll pull the trigger amicably after WrestleMania and start his rise up the singles ranks which will culminate with  Montez Ford finally capturing singles gold at Ford Field in Detroit.

  • GUNTHER (C) vs. Drew McIntyre WWE Intercontinental Title Match

The bloodline storyline that WWE is currently running is widely considered one of the best they’ve done in the companies history. The whole story started with Roman Reigns forcing Jey Uso to acknowledge him as the tribal chief and head of the table, and the story needs to end with Uso defeating Roman almost three years after it started, whether Jey becomes the new “head of the table” or not he still has to get this huge win at SummerSlam.

  • "The Est of WWE" Bianca Belair (C) vs. Charlotte Flair RAW Women's Championship

Charlotte Flair’s always one match away from being champion, and Bianca Belair just passed one year as RAW Women’s Champion, the two are finally end up on the same brand. I interviewed Bianca last year after WrestleMania and she told me that one of her goals was to defeat all four WWE Horsewomen (Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, Sasha Banks & Bailey) she has defeated all but one of the four, that changes at SummerSlam!
