Hop on Facebook and it’s likely that you’ll see a handful of names that make you stop and say, “Wait? Who is this person?”
Maybe you went to camp with them for one summer, or you friended them because they lived on your floor freshman year of college. Either way, you’re not exactly close buds.
You’ve probably never been to their home, and you almost definitely wouldn’t consider photographing them. But that’s exactly what photographer Tanja Hollander did.
She was contemplating the concept of friendship one day, and decided to photograph each and every one of her Facebook “friends” at their homes. The project took five years to complete, and brought Hollander to four continents, 12 countries, and 34 states, and over 400 homes.
Pretty impressive, right? The cool thing about the gallery is that Hollander accompanies each photograph with a caption about how she met the person and how long she’s known them. It just shows how big a social web we really have.
