ORIGINAL STORY
In a surprising plot twist definitely worthy of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, director James Gunn has been reinstated as the director of Guardians of the Galaxy 3.
Per Deadline, Gunn’s rehiring actually took place months ago after the director met with Walt Disney Studios president Alan Horn on multiple occasions about returning to GOTG after being fired due to decades-old tweets containing jokes about pedophilia and rape, which resurfaced are were spread on social media.
Gunn issued an apology about the tweets in July 2018 saying, in part, “Many people who have followed my career know when I started, I viewed myself as a provocateur, making movies and telling jokes that were outrageous and taboo. As I have discussed publicly many times, as I’ve developed as a person, so has my work and my humor.”
Shortly after Gunn’s firing, the GOTG cast issued an open letter in support of Gunn and his reinstatement as director.
Marvel Studios has agreed to commence production on Guardians of the Galaxy 3 after Gunn completes Suicide Squad 2 for rival studio DC.
