CSX BREAKROOM

The 94th Annual Academy Awards are this Sunday. The variety of best picture nominees is very unique this year. Films about topics like a nightmare circus, 60s turmoil and even a meteor we all wish would go away. And we are in a time where theatres are no longer the only place for Oscar winners. Apple Tv, Netflix and many streaming services are putting their hats into the Oscar ring. Have you seen any of these films? Who do you think will take home Oscar gold? Here are the nominees for BEST PICTURE!

  • Belfast

Belfast has a really powerful air about it that is going to really touch people at their core I think. All in black in white and still delivering. A story of loss, love and laughs during the tenuous late ’60s.

  • CODA

A young girl has to make a decision to pursue her dreams of singing. Or to stay with her completely deaf family and support their fishing business. “There are plenty of pretty voices with nothing to say”

  • Don’t Look Up

Ever have anyone just not believed you no matter the evidence? Ignorance is bliss? A meteor is going to hit Earth and only a couple of people seem to want to pay attention.

  • Drive My Car

Seems at first to be a lot of driving around in cars, but it has a heartfelt empathy that has to be watched.

  • Dune

I’ve been a fan of the Dune novels and the old school Dune movie for a long time. It’s rare for a sci-fi film to get Best Picture but I’ll cross my fingers. Dune is a deep political sci-fi movie based on the novel of the same name.

  • King Richard

Will Smith plays the coach, mentor and father of Venus and Serena Williams.

  • Nightmare Alley

Guillermo del Toro takes us on a journey through a distorted nightmare carney realm. Don’t forget your elephant ears and cotton candy!

  • The Power of the Dog

The trailer doesn’t reveal much. Old-timey western with a high level of drama and Benedict Cumberbatch.

  • West Side Story

Steven Spielberg’s reimagining of the award-winning musical.
