Though Nicole Kidman is not a stranger to the DC Universe, she returns many 12+ years later, this time for the stand-alone Aquaman film.
Birthday Girl Nicole Kidman will be taking on a new role this time, and what better fitting role than playing Jason Momoa‘s mom, Queen Atlanna. We always knew Nicole was a queen!
As the comic goes, according to Entertainment Weekly, the then-Princess Of Atlantis falls in love with a lonely lighthouse keeper (named Tom Curry, according to the Aquaman Wiki) and gives birth to Aquaman, (er… Arthur, as the story goes).
She’s totally stoked for the role that Director James Wan offered to her, and she said (quoted by EW) “As soon as he said I could wear mother-of-pearl and be a mermaid warrior, I said I’m done. Please. If there is one thing I have to do in my life, I have to be that. [Laughs] Because, you’ve got to have some fun.”
ScreenRant shares that it’s unsure the storyline that Queen Atlanna will play inside the DCEU, but their take is that “she’ll undoubtedly factor into the politics of the war – which is specifically called a “revolt” – though it’s unclear whether she sides with her son or her people.”
