Roller Coaster Derails in Mexico City Leaving Two Dead
Unfortunate news comes out of Mexico City as a roller coaster derailed at the La Feria de Chapultepec amusement park killing two people and seriously injuring two. The last car on the Quimera roller coaster detached from the train and track, falling more than 30 feet, People explains. As the train went down, it hit a steel support beam.
The two riders that died were seen hitting their heads on the metal beams that supported the roller coaster. They were two men, ages 18 and 21. Six other riders were also taken in and treated for shock.
In a statement on their Facebook page, the amusement park expressed their regret over the incident. “From the first moment, our priority has been to accompany and provide all the necessary support to the affected visitors and their families.” They also explain, “We are in coordination with the authorities to support the families of the two people who unfortunately lost their lives as a result of the accident.”
The park’s statement also adds that the will suspend park activities to follow-up on protocol, security measures, and maintenance.
