WDIV Reporter Steve Garagiola Announces Retirement with Emotional Message
One of Detroit’s favorite news casters, Steve Garagiola, has announced his retirement from WDIV. He’s spent 44 years in television, so it’s a big move.
“For the past 27 years, Local-4 has been my TV family where I have had the pleasure of working with many of the most talented, honest, and dedicated people in this industry,” he says in a message on Facebook Wednesday (Dec. 1).
Garagiola started his career at Lansing’s WILX in 1977. He became a part of WDIV in 1995 as a sports reporter, but switched gears to news following his coverage the bombing of the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.
