It's always great when a local, Michigan business gets major props. That's just what's happening with a Michigan music shop, that was recently recognized as the best small business in America. That's so wild to think about, because it's not just the best of all the music stores. It's been named the best of any small business in the country. I've been to this store many times with my bass guitar, so it's wonderful to see it top the list.

Michigan Shop Named Best Small Business in America

The honor comes from the most recent list from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, of the top small businesses in the country.

No. 1 on the tally, according to the  U.S. Chamber of Commerce, is the family-owned music store Elderly Instruments in Lansing. Elderly Instruments accepted the ranking and a $25,000 check at an Oct. 19 award ceremony at the U.S. Chamber’s headquarters in Washington, D.C. Believe it or not, the shop beat out more than 15,000 small businesses across the country for the award. So, what made Elderly stand out? According to the official award announcement, it was selected "for its ability to embrace change, adapt to new challenges, and constantly innovate while remaining true to the company's 50-year legacy and heritage."

"Elderly Instruments played a pivotal role in the revitalization of Old Town Lansing through the expansion of their brick-and-mortar footprint," Elderly states on their website, in regards to the awards. Their dedication to sponsoring and participating in numerous community music festivals, camps, and concerts has added vibrancy to Old Town Lansing and increased tourism to the state's capital, as recognized by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in their press release." It's great to see this business thrive. I've purchased some music books and bass strings from there, and they've fixed my bass a few times, too. Find Elderly online here.
