Michigan to Get an Upwards of 8 Inches of Snow This Week – Here’s Where
A few weeks ago, Michigan was slated to get doused with snow, but the snow totals ended up in random areas and not necessarily those that were expected. For example, Detroit was supported to get slammed, but mid-Michigan got more snow that Detroit and much more than projected. Now, the weather predictors have their feelers out for another big storm, and this one seems more certain, according to reports. If you’re traveling on the road across lower Michigan this week, here’s what you need to know.
The weather will be quiet going into the middle of the week, but then, that changes pretty quickly. “A system will move through Wednesday into early Friday,” states the National Weather Service. “Half an inch to an inch of rain is expected on Wednesday with a wintry mix early Thursday. That mix will transition to all (snow) midday Thursday with the heaviest snow Thursday evening into early Friday.”
Snow totals Thursday into Friday, according to the National Weather Service, will be 4-8 inches across most of central Michigan. That might not seem like a lot compared to projects from previous storms, but 8 inches is still pretty rough, if you ask me. Then again, I don’t care for any snow, so even 1 inch isn’t welcomed. View the snow lives and how much snow you’re projected to get via the graphic below. Lansing, Grand Rapids, Flint, Alma, Bad Axe and Kalamazoo are all expected to get 4-8 inches of snow. Jackson is at 3-6 inches. Meanwhile, the National Weather Service in Detroit projects 2-3 inches for the Motor City and 3-4 inches in neighboring areas. “An all rain start transitions to wintry mix and snow Thursday. System track still carries a great deal of uncertainty which will affect the transition timing/location and subsequent snow/ice totals,” the National Weather Service states.
