Michigan Storm: Update on Who’s Getting Up to 8 Inches of Snow
We’re one day closer to the big storm that everyone is talking about this week, and as expected, projections have changed. Originally, mid-Michigan was expected to get the brunt of the storm, up to 8 inches in most areas, but now, the storm has moved a bit south, meaning if you’re in lower Michigan, you might need to stock up on snowed-in items and make plans to stay off the road.
A Winter Storm Warning and Winter Weather Advisory are in effect for Thursday afternoon through early Friday morning across portions of Southeast Michigan, according to the National Weather Service. “Total snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches possible in the Warning area with slightly lower totals farther north in the Advisory,” they state. Meanwhile, across the rest of lower Michigan, the National Weather Service states that, “Snow is expected to break out around midday on Thursday and continue into the evening hours before ending around midnight. 4 to 6 inches of snow is expected in a swath across Southern Lower Michigan including Kalamazoo, Battle Creek, Jackson and Mason. Snow covered and slippery roads are expected along with limited visibility at times.” They also warn about driving conditions, stating, “The Thursday evening commute will be the most impacted. Blowing and drifting snow is also forecast.”

It appears Jackson and Kalamazoo are in the heart of the snow now, with 4-8 inches predicted, while Detroit, Lansing, Grand Rapids and Flint are on the outskirts of the big snow.
