Canada Reportedly Lifting COVID-19 Vaccine Mandate for Visitors, Athletes
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has reportedly agreed to lift the county’s vaccine mandate for foreign travelers, according to Associated Press reported. This would also include professional athletes coming into Canada.
The vaccine mandate has been in place for roughly a year. Currently, non-vaccinated foreign travelers have not been allowed to enter the country for non-essential purposes.
Those entering Canada unvaccinated are required to quarantine for 14 days. Canada’s mandate is like the one the United States has in place for foreigners wishing to enter the U.S.
According to the AP, the new rules would be expected to go into place Sept. 30.
This is huge news for sports. Currently, unvaccinated professional athletes coming into Canada have not been allowed to play in sporting events in Canada. In the MLB, teams have been forced to call in minor league baseball players to take the roster spots left by unvaccinated players.
