Michigan is One of the Best States for This College Sport
It’s a given that Michgian is a great state for a lot of sports. I mean, we have great pro teams out of Detroit. (Fine, the Lions may not be great right now, but there’s always that lasting hope.) We also have several universities with exceptional teams.
As it turns out, Michigan is one of the best state in the U.S. for one popular sport. The poll was done via GreatLakesStakes.com.
GreatLakesStakes.com has developed a ranking system of the best states to be a college football fan since the adoption of the College Football Playoff in 2014. So, where does Michigan stand? The state of Michigan is actually the No. 6 best state to be a college football fan since 2014.
College football is a huge part of the Mitten, with Michigan and Michigan State often garnering national attention. “Michigan lays claim to two College Football Playoff participants, with the Wolverines making the field in 2021 and the Spartans doing so in 2015,” the article states. “Michigan’s playoff appearance last year drew quite a bit of attention from MI sports betting sites.”
According to the study, “The state’s other three Football Bowl Subdivision squads — Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, and Western Michigan — have had varying levels of success since the dawn of the CFP in 2014, with WMU posting a .612 winning percentage, while CMU (.485) and EMU (.414) have been less successful. GreatLakesStakes.com used the success of a state’s FBS programs both on the field (win percentage and bonus points for CFP appearances and national titles) and off-field (recruiting rankings and average attendance) to come up with a ranking for each state.” If you’re wondering, the No. 1 state is Alabama, followed by South Carolina and Ohio.
