Former Detroit QB Matthew Stafford Goes Viral for Comments on Calvin Johnson and Cooper Kupp
Matthew Stafford is definitely one of the highest profile NFL players at the moment, thanks to his recent Super Bowl win with the Los Angeles Rams. Now, the former Lions quarterback is making headlines for something different than his Super Bowl win- try his Freudian slip between Calvin Johnson and Cooper Kupp.
For many years, Stafford threw the ball to Megatron, and two had hopes to carrying the Lions to some victorious seasons. Of course, Johnson retired and Stafford left for the Rams, where he scored his new team a Super Bowl with Kupp at his side.
Both Johnson and Kupp are fantastic receivers, so it makes sense that Stafford had a little slip up when talking about Kupp. “In the Super Bowl comes to mind, the fade to Calvin [Johnson]. Sorry, fade to Cooper,” Stafford said after being asked about his favorite throw from last season. Check out the tweet with video here.
That’s a big compliment to Kupp that Stafford would think of him, even subconsciously, in comparison to Johnson. I mean, Johnson is one of the greatest receivers to ever play in the NFL. It’s too bad the Lions couldn’t make something of the team when Johnson was on board, since his athleticism is so spectacular. Anyway, onwards and upwards, and we look ahead to the next Lions season.
