Michigan Bracing for Cold Weather, Going from the 80s to 30s

It’s still felt a lot like summer in Michigan for much of September, and I’m not mad about it. I’m not ready for fall yet and certainly not ready for winter. But, as we head into the end of September, it’s inevitable that Michigan is going to get some colder weather, and some is coming very soon.
This week, we’ve had the good luck of being in the 80s throughout much of lower Michigan. That’s about to change, though, as a major cold front moves in.
According to the National Weather Service, many areas of lower Michigan will see their temperatures go from highs in the 80s to lows in the 30s or 40s later this week. That’s a huge temperature difference, even for Michigan, a state known for our temperature fluctuations.

— NWS Detroit (@NWSDetroit) September 19, 2022" rel="noopener" target="_blank">National Weather Service in Detroit reports that while “much above normal temperatures” will continue through Wednesday, “a strong cold front will bring strong to possibly severe thunderstorms Wednesday afternoon, with much cooler air for Thursday and Friday, as low temperatures dip into the upper 30s to lower 40s Thursday night.” At least that means the temperatures won’t be too hot going into October, for those who want to feel like they are experiencing a real fall.
Along with the cooler temperatures this week will also come wet weather. According to the Several rounds of t-storms will affect parts of Lower Michigan today/tonight. Most of these storms will not be severe, and many areas will remain dry. However, where storms occur, a few may produce large hail (to 1”) and isolated damaging gusts, mainly from 2 PM–midnight.” Showers are also expected to make their way across the state, moving east and impacting mid-Michigan and the Detroit area. Get ready for some fall weather, kids.
